The Moral of the Story

I found myself wondering this morning if I truly got my message across last night during the banquet, so I wanted to add a little.

One of the many reasons that I told the story about Brian Tillis was to illustrate something very important about Peoria Notre Dame swimmers. Brian's journey has been the rule as opposed to the exception. Almost all of PND's swimmers have come into the program without much experience. In the end, experience and talent don't matter much when you committ yourself to improving. You can choose a path to greatness and you can do it in the timeframe available.

I believe that too many people in today's world will tell you that you must succeed by the time you are 10 years old or you will amount to nothing. I am here to tell you that there are no such rules. Any of you and all of you can choose that path to greatness. You can committ yourself to something, work towards its achievement, and realize success. I will admit that there are no guarantees in life. Hard work doesn't guarantee success, but each of you has an opportunity to impact the growing legacy of Peoria Notre Dame swimming.
