Sacred Heart - Swimmers of the Meet.
We had three swimmers pull out all of the stops to have lifetime best performances.
Frank Gray shattered his lifetime best in the 100 free with 51.10 and he also shattered his lifetime best in the 200 free with a 1:55.82
Dan Stoughton showed his grit by dropping a full second for a lifetime best 1:02.59 in the 100 butterfly. As if that wasn't enough, he swam the 500 free 2 events later to claim a critical 4th place finish with another lifetime best performance.
Jared Martin also performed a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke with a 1:07.11 and claimed a critical 4th place finish.

Swimmer of the Meet - Central Dual
I am finally getting caught up on the Swimmer of the Meet award winners.
For the Central Dual, we had two first year swimmers step up and show that they aren't afraid of working through the big events. Patrick O'Brien and Tim Schmitt swam the 500 freestyle for the first time and earned Swimmer of the Meet honors.
Jay Bell also showed his stuff in diving by nailing some tough dives. His 1 1/2 is really looking smooth. He earned Diver of the Meet honors.

Meet Schedule Updates
Here are a few quick updates to the meet schedule. The Eureka Dual meet is definitely on January 20th, 10am at Eureka College.
The dual meet with Sacred Heart has been moved back to 3pm on January 27th. We moved the meet to accomodate some of their swimmers who are taking the ACT. This will be our toughest dual meet all season so we want it to be a good one.

Eureka Dual Meet Update
The Eureka Dual meet is currently scheduled for:
Saturday, January 20th, 10AM at Eureka College.
They are facing some pool water challenges, so this meet could potentially be changed to a home meet. Stay tuned and I will let you know more information as it develops.

Swimmers of the Meet - Charger Invite
Well, I could probably write all night about today. What a great meet. When you have a great meet, it is always tough to highlight just a few of the athletes. We started off the day with bang when Brian Tillis dropped 2 more seconds to claim the 200 freestyle title. This marked the first time that we had ever won an event at this meet. After watching that race, I told Ibrahim, "you know how it hurts when you're swimming really hard?....Yeah Brian doesn't have that."
Ibrahim Hambazaza then took advantage of the great competition to pull out a season best 22.93 in the 50 freestyle. He later set a lifetime best in the 100 freestyle and also had 2 season best relay splits.
Jake Querciagrossa showed that he is a contender. He set his 2nd school record in 2 swims in the 500 freestyle, and he claimed the title against stiff competition. The state meet better beware. His time of 4:49.04 is 12 seconds faster than he was last year at this meet.
Rounding out the swimmer of the meet honors was Frank Gray. Frank swam right at his season-bests all day, and added a tremondous 51 second leg to the championship 400 free relay. That relay is the 2nd fastest time in the school's history.

Swimmer of the Meet - Woodruff Dual
Congratulations to three swimmers for earning swimmer of the meet honors at the Woodruff Dual. Doug Elbert showed that he's not afraid of anything by swimming his first 100 butterfly. That event takes guts. Danny Slevin showed how hard he trains by going well under the 6 minute mark in his debut 500 free. Alex Boen swam to a 1:07 in the 100 butterfly. With that time, Alex has moved into contention for the Sectional lineup. After swimming that event, he stated that his plan is to make the 200 medley relay.
