Irish Invite - Swimmer of the Meet

There are many ways to earn Swimmer of the meet. A few of our new athletes impressed me with their huge efforts. Nicholas Redshaw performed 11 dives today. No PND diver has ever learned 11 dives so quickly. Matt Pierz showed some big confidence in conquering the 500 Freestyle today. He took it out strong and stayed strong.

We also had some more experienced athletes prove that they belong with the best. Brian Tillis is getting better every meet. He broke the 2:00 barrier in the 200 Freestyle today with a solid 1:58, and then he followed it up with 5:21 in the 500 Freestyle. Frank Gray is looking more comfortable in his new role as a sprinter. He swam a solid 54 in the 100 Freestyle, and then added icing to his cake with a 23.98 split in the 200 Freestyle Relay

This is just the start.

Swimmer of the Meet - Sacred Heart (12/10)

Since we had a full JV and varsity meet, it is only fitting that I name a few swimmers of the meet for the JV meet and a few for the varsity meet.

On the JV side, we had some real contenders. Daniel Gullifor won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Peter Tigue won the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Both earned "Swimmer of the meet."

On the varsity side, Mike Matarelli stepped up big in his only varsity event for the day. He placed 5th in the 50 freestyle with an impressive 26.61. Big honors also went to David Myers for setting a new school record of 220.70.

Richwoods Swimmer of the meet honors

Three swimmers earned themselves swimmer of the meet honors tonight. First, Kevin Gorman made an incredible debut performance in the 100 butterfly. Even more incredible is that he swam it in the 100 Freestyle event.

Second, Brian Tillis is proving that he is a contender. Tonight, he broke the 5:30 barrier in the 500 and snagged a 2:00 in the 200 freestyle. Those times were both lifetime bests for Brian.

Finally, Jake Querciagrossa earned himself a spot on the PND swimming and diving record board with a 2:08.33 school record performance in the 200IM. Not too shabby for a freshman in his third meet of the season. He broke the previous mark of 2:08.77 set by Nathan Jackson in 1999 during his junior year.

2 and 0

Can you believe it? This is only the second time that PND has started the season at 2-0. As if it doesn't feel good enough to be undefeated, it feels even better knowing that those two wins came over our toughest competition in the conference.

Macomb Crew - 3rd Place

Here's the crew that placed 3rd at the Macomb Invite. The image is kinda fuzzy. I think that they're too fast to get a clear photo.

J.P. breaks the barrier

J.P. earned swimmer of the meet honors after breaking the 1:00 barrier in the 100 freestyle and leading off the 200 freestyle relay with a 25 second split.

Robin makes it happen

Unprecedented

The 2005-2006 edition of PND swimming and diving have already placed themselves among great company. Only one other PND team has started the season undefeated with a dual meet win over Pekin. In an unprecendented act, I awarded the entire team a bottle of water as "Swimmers of the meet." Danny Slevin will serve as the custodian of this award. Watch for it as it travels with us to every swim meet this year.

It is spelled H-A-M-B-A-Z-A-Z-A

Ibrahim used his PND debut performance to add his name to list of PND greats. I can't remember the last time a PND swimmer went 23.17 in a dual meet opener. To the victor goes the spoils.

Swimmer of the meet - Hutt Sytle

Each swim meet, a few proud souls get to go home with "Swimmer of the Meet" honors. A little Pekin pool water can go a long way toward inspiration. Brian Hutt stepped up and the got the job done in the 100 breaststroke. Here he is enjoying the ride home.

Shout out to Pekin!

I would like to formally welcome all of the readers we have had from Pekin lately. I appreciate their interest in our swim team. In honor of Pekin, I wanted to share a picture of Conan with his Pekin pompadour (aka mullet). He had this haircut arranged especially for the opening dual meet.
